THE SHOW

EDINBURGH MAGIC - AN ENCHANTING NIGHT OUT

Enjoy modern recreations of magic tricks, in luxury surrounds, that have fooled the greatest and most creative minds associated with the city – from a “master magician”, storyteller and showman – Kevin Quantum (read more about Kevin).

Make your way through the historic five star Caledonian Hotel, up the grand staircase to the Triannon Suite where the drinks reception awaits. Doors open 30 minutes before the show – enjoy a number of magical curiosities in your private suite and a glass of Prosecco before the doors to the Versailles Suite performance area are swung open.

The Versailles is a wonder, it’s like stepping into a work of art. Like that bit in Mary Poppins, but for real. A listed site, the walls are hand painted to replicate the gardens of Versailles in France.

Then the magic begins… Levitation, mind reading, sleight-of-hand – delivered with undeniable skill and wit from a consummate showman. And you’re only ever a few feet from the action in a room that holds no more than 30 guests. The show lasts 70 minutes and Kevin is always available at the end for photos and handshakes.

Enjoy our promo video for the performance as Kevin makes his way through the hotel creating magical happenings as he goes!

The video was directed by award winning cinematographer David Arthur.

Combining modern luxury with Victorian style the hotel boasts Michelin star restaurants, cocktail bars and elegant tea rooms. The performance venue – the Versailles Suite is a work of art. The hand painted walls mirror the splendour of the garden of Versailles, the lighting must be kept low so as not to damage the paintwork. The perfect conditions for an intimate evening of wonder…

This history and origins

An answer to banned public gatherings, Kevin wrote his first ever virtual show “The Trick That Fooled” in 2020. The idea came from an article in the Magic Circular Magazine (the club magazine for The Magic Circle members) which described a magic trick that had fooled Albert Einstein in London in the early 1900s.

Inspired by the tale, Kevin began to research old magic magazines, newspaper articles from a century or more ago and journals – uncovering stories of magicians and their performances to famous people. In 2021 when public gatherings were allowed Kevin created a live version of “The Trick That Fooled” which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in August that year. The show was a huge success, a complete sell-out for the month of August and reviewed with four and five stars from prestige publications like the Scotsman. In 2022 Kevin decided to give the show a Scottish slant, and Edinburgh Magic was born. The Caledonian Hotel (the Waldorf Astoria) jumped at the chance to partner with Kevin and the first season of Edinburgh Magic was presented to sell out audiences in October 2022 to this very day.
